The Boot fits well for Sanders at Boothill Speedway

A weekend trip back to the South provided Rodney Sanders another opportunity to remind rest of the field that he's ready to get his USMTS title back!
19th Annual Doug Murphrey Memorial Night 2
Boothill Speedway, Greenwood, Louisiana
Weather Conditions via NWS in Shreveport, Louisiana
91 Degrees
A Few Clouds that weren't helpful
Bonus feature: Dewpoint was 73 degrees. Anything over 65 is when you can feel it. Anything over 70 you better have a big jug of water to stay hydrated. Weather nerd rant over 😄
SW winds of 6-10 MPH
Car Counts via MRP live timing and scoring
USMTS: 38
USRA B-mods: 17
USRA Limited Mods: 14
Sunoco USRA Factory Stocks: 23
Qualifying Quick Time: $100 winner from Hodges Farming and Dredging. Also the winner this weekend won a gift card from Mr. Greg Deatherage from Deatherage Opticians and a KK 704 American Racer tire from Comprehensive Motorsports.
Group A: Kyle Strickler and Jason Hughes: 15.862
Group B: Chris Henigan: 15.855 Overall Quick Time Winner. Luckily Chris won quick time, as per the rule book (5.3 Qualifying Procedures) there's nothing that says what to do in case there's a tie after going back 4 numbers. I'm sure that was a phone call Todd wasn't expecting back in Iowa. Maybe we'll need a Duvall Electric Spelling Bee in the future....c'mon now.
Real Race Wheels B-mains:
B-main #1: Joe Chisholm
B-main #2: Jim Chisholm
Provisionals: Terry Phillips (USMTS), Kyle Brown (USMTS), Dustin Hyde (ARMS), Kenny Gaddis (USMTS). Due to this being co-ran by USMTS and ARMS series, both series offered Provisionals for those who had them available.
DNQ: 14 Drivers didn't start the a-main. 24 car field after USMTS and ARMS series Provisionals were given out.
Next Race: June 11, 2025, 12th Annual War in West Union $3,000 to win, Fayette County Speedway, West Union, Iowa (rescheduled from previous rain out on May 22, 2025)

Top 10 Recap:
- Rodney Sanders: The announcers joked Rodney hit the Mario Star on the high side. That star must've been worth 15 laps because he was checked out after he found it. A couple small changes from last night adapted well to his MB Customs as he was one of the few who could run the razor thin lip.
- Kyle Strickler: Aside from some CDR chassis test sessions at Boothill (it's close to the Cade Dillard race shop), Kyle hadn't seen much of this track. Sometimes that's a good thing since you're not overthinking setups, ending up in the turn 4 wall. Even though he's disappointed with another second, he joked he found the positive of he'll have gas money at least to get to West Union on Wednesday. I think G-man would be happy to handle that bill as Kyle moved up to 3rd in points.
- Jason Hughes: Last night I mentioned how I saw the fire back in Jason's eyes. Tonight reminded me of those battles with Kelly up and down the road. Extra special tonight was starting on the front row with his son Trevor. I'm not sure we've seen father and son on the front row of a USMTS event. Hopefully a picture of that will be hanging at the Hughes Racing Chassis shop soon. Jason appreciated the nice smooth track and effort from the owners this weekend.
- Chris Henigan: Picked up quick time overall along with plenty of goodies. A good weekend at Boothill with two top 5's especially against the competition that was in the pits this weekend.
- Gary Christian: Another driver that needed a little boost of confidence after a rough during the Memorial Day swing up north. As tight as the midfield standings are becoming, each finish will start to become more important.
- Reece Solander: Although quick time was the highlight of the previous race, the team got back to their consistency tonight. A good night with a pack of Skyrocket/Balance Speed cars in a row.
- Jim Chisholm: Luckily the pay window isn't completely for qualifying. It's been a long time since Jim was that far down the charts having to start 9th in his heat race. Won his b-main and advanced 7 spots from his feature starting spot. -57 points behind Rodney, a return to West Union would be a good start to regain some lost points.
- Joe Chisholm: Copy pasta my comments about Jim. Joe had a busy night after a subpar qualifying effort. Rebounded well for another top 10 finish. I mentioned his slider from Friday night. Saturday's slider was lacking a little mustard that ended up against the side of Kenny Gaddis's yellow car. If he see's the opportunity to try it, Joe isn't afraid to throw it.
- Trevor Hughes: Started on the front row with his Dad. Easily the highlight of his season if you asked him. On the other side, I'm sure he'll be disappointed in the finish. As I've said before this season, Trevor has continue to impress me. The good finishes have out number the off nights. Year 2 if he continues with the tour will have a good notebook for these tracks.
- Kyle Slader: Making more trips out on the road between USMTS and the regional touring seasons (Heartland, ARMS). A driver to keep a eye on as he continues to progress in his fairly young A-Mod career.
Honorable Mention: Upcoming schedule
After a fairly quiet start to the season from previous USMTS schedules, as Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross would say, "Business is picking up". Starting Wednesday at West Union, the stars and cars of the USMTS will have 5 different tracks to attack from June 11 to June 21. They'll be traveling from Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Nebraska and back down to Texas, weather permitting of course. After this hot and heavy stretch, the tour gets a much needed break until they make a return for duck wantons at the big 1/2 mile Fairmont Raceway July 17th.
Follow Along: DirtInfo | Dirt Racing Analysis & Opinions My writings can be found here. As they say, things are "in the works" for some other projects. Right now, I'll recap all the USMTS events, either in person, or thanks to the fine folks at RacinDirt | USMTS, Dirt Modifieds & Live Racing Streams. The nights I'm at the track and in the pits, I'll have a race recap similar to my Mason City USMTS fair race article. A modified version of the Recliner Reactions those nights will still be available.
DirtInfo - YouTube I have a voice and face for writing so you won't see me here :). A weekly podcast my discord friends put on with a buffet of racing topics, series, schedules and other topics of interest. I will toss them a USMTS nugget or two when asked. More importantly, they'll always leave you with "One for the Road'.
